
1/4 cup butter
1 cup Imperial Sugar or Dixie Crystal Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
1/4 cup milk
2 large eggs
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cardamon
1/2 cup finely ground almonds
Dash salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 large egg whites
2 tablespoons honey
2 cups Imperial Sugar or Dixie Crystals Confectioners Powdered Sugar, sifted
For Flowers-red and green gumdrops
Cream butter with Dixie Crystals sugar. Stir in milk. Add eggs one at a time. Mix flour, spices, nuts, salt and pepper together. Add dry ingredients to butter mixture. Divide mixture into thirds, wrap and chill for an hour. Roll dough out, a third at a time. Cut into heart shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet in preheated 350° oven, 10-12 minutes. Edges will brown slightly. Cool on rack. For icing, beat egg whites and honey. Gradually beat in Imperial Sugar or Dixie Crystals Confectioners Powdered Sugar. Using spatula, spread cooled cookies with icing. Decorate as desired. Let dry on rack completely. Makes about 2 dozen cookies, about 3 inches each.
